Micaele Johnson, Smithers native, Theatre Royal and Barkervillesweetheart for 5 seasons opens her onewoman show at the Sunset Theatre in Wells BC July 16. Forget Me Not takesus on her journey as a young woman leaving the north to explore the greaterlandscape of the west and the lights of the big city through poetry, song anddance. Forget Me Not encompasses Micaele’sown poetry and song while she dances to music that speaks to her heart,informs her journey and inspires her to dance. Forget MeNot previews July 15 and opens July 16 at 8:00 p.m. Additional dates: July 17, 22,24, 27 at 8 pm, July 18 & 25 at 3:30pm, Aug 4, 6, 7, 11, 13, 19, 24 at 8 pm, Aug 15, 22, 28 at 3:30 pm, Sept 4 at 8pm. Aprolific tap dancer, Micaele startedstudying tap at the age of 12 after sustaining a major injury during figureskating training. After a year at CanadianCollege Performing Arts her passion for dance and performing broughther to Barkerville where she performed 5seasons at Theatre Royal. Her thirstfor knowledge and excellence propelled her to continue her studies at Circle in the Square in New York City. Micaele fell in love with the big lights anddreams of Broadway but like many Canadians was required had to come back homebefore the dream was sated. Coming back to Vancouver, Micaele interrupted therole of the Station Mistress for Storyeum,danced her way through West Side Story atRoyal City Musical Theatre under themusical direction of the late Lloyd Nicholson,played Nurse Monika in The Physicistsfor Genus Theatre and portrayed a HurdyGurdy Girl in the silent film Little Heavenand Earth.
Co-created and directed by Karen Jeffery Forget Me Not paints the picture of the innerlandscape of leaving home to find your dreams, embracing the world and learningthat sometimes the best things in life are found in your own back yard. Semi – autobiographical using Micaele’swriting and choreography, theatrical licence and interpretation has been engagedto lace together beautiful and mysterious mosaics of life and love. Professional Actress, Singer, Producer, Stage-managerand Executive Director, For-Me-Not is Karen Jeffery’s creation-directorialdebut which fulfills another dream of the Sunset Theatre when she bought itover 10 years ago.
The Sunset Theatre has returned after a year hiatus. The first two productions, Victorian Street Music with Danette Boucher,James Douglas, Lynnette Candy, JP Winslow and Andrew Hamilton and Ducks onthe Moon by award winning Saskatchewan playwright Kelley Jo Burke opened with heart-felt standing ovations and fullhouses. Still to come this season is the return of The Fred Wells Show performed by James Douglas, written and directed by Danette Boucher, MoragNorthey – Cellist, Poet, Singer/songwriter, Japanglish written and performed by Yumi Ogama, and of course the infamous Sunset Cabaret July 20. Thisyear the Sunset is also offering children’s programming during Arts Wellsfollowed by a Teen Drama Camp August3 – 9.
