We screened 35 short films from The Cariboo & around the world!

Including the acclaimed feature documentary, Aim For The Roses,
with Q&A by director John Bolton!

August 25th-27th, 2017

The Moonrise Film Festival seeks to find today’s great and emerging filmmakers, and engage audiences with their work in the historic Sunset Theatre of Wells, BC. Each year, we pride ourselves on screening freshly independent animation, documentary, experimental, and fiction films from the heart of the Cariboo and around the world. Last year we had 7 Canadian filmmakers attend our festival, giving audiences a chance to interact first-hand with them in intimate Q&A sessions!

OUR 2017 YEAR:

From August 25th-27th 2017, we screened 35 independent short and feature films by Canadian and International filmmakers, including the VFCC "Best BC Film" nominated documentary feature film Aim For The Roses, (Official Selection: Hot Docs '16, DOXA '16 RIDM '16) with filmmaker John Bolton in attendance for an after screening Q&A! Additionally, we programmed a full hour of local short films from The Cariboo, showcasing Wells, Quesnel, and Barkerville.

We make a point of honoring our selected filmmakers by having our audience vote on their favourite films in each of our 8 short film categories: Drama, Comedy, Documentary, Animation, Experimental, Canadian, International, and Cariboo. All winning filmmakers are then presented our "Audience Choice Award", and are given lifetime free submissions to our festival, along with a complimentary full pass to our next Moonrise season!
